WEBSITE & SEO SUCCESS STORY

PUG RYAN'S STEAK HOUSE & BREWERY | DILLON, CO

Custom artwork created for Pug's website

Pug Ryan's Steak House opened for business in 1975 making it Dillon's oldest steak house. Pug Ryan's offers diners classic Colorado fare in the Town of Dillon Colorado, just minutes from Keystone and Breckenridge. Annie & Travis Holton, Pug Ryan's principal owners, came to Imagine That needing their website redesigned. Their old site was hard to edit and did not promote a good user experience.

When you visit Pug Ryan's, the atmosphere is fun and noisy (in a "this is a great restaurant" kind of way). The decor is inviting, reflecting a rustic mountain look. There are lots of facinating things to catch your eye hanging on the walls.  We wanted to build a website for Pug Ryan's that reflected the fun ambiance of the restaurant.

Website design should reflect the ambiance of the restaurant

Pug Ryan's Website Development Process

Pug Ryan's is located in Summit County, Colorado, an area driven by outdoor recreation and tourism. Pug Ryan's website had to be fun, inviting and easy-to-find. They needed a mobile device version for their site as well, since so many people would be using mobile phones to look for a place to eat after a day on the slopes.

We met several times with the Holtons to determine their online marketing goals. We asked them some fundamental questions:

• What did they want the website to do for their business?

• What kind of user experience did they want for their customers?

• How would they measure the website's success?

The ambiance of the restuarant provided great fodder for our creative direction. Imagine That's designers, Tom Fellner and Yvette Sirbu, used images of the floor, walls and decorations as backgrounds for the new website's look and feel. Pug Ryan's wanted to feature an online menu, a menu they could easily edit. Jeff McElhattan, Imagine That's programmer built a database-driven menu for them. He also designed an easy-to-use client management tool so Annie could quickly and easily update their offerings.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Building a great website was only part of the marketing plan. Pug Ryan's new website launched in May 2010. From May to November 2010, the restaurant saw an average of 700 visitors per month to their site. They wanted to improve that by implementing our advanced SEO plan. We optimized their website, and implemented a number of other SEO strategies.

Eight months later, Pug Ryan's was averaging 1,500 to 2,000 visits to their site each month. We added printable coupons to the website and a digital coupon to the mobile device site as a way to track conversions. Over 600 coupons were redeemed over the two month test period, attesting to the success of the SEO strategy.

The Results

Annie & Travis Holton are very pleased with their new websiteTravis and Annie run a great establishment. Pug Ryan's is part of thousands of people's lives when they visit Summit County. Their old website didn't provide a way for Pug's Posse to stay connected with its customers. It wasn't easy to manage, and lacked the interactivity people have come to expect. Their new website reflects who they are, what they do and why they do it. It has become an intergral part of their marketing strategy.

"We can see tangible results. Business is up and we know our website plays a major role in that," says Pug Ryan's owner, Travis Holton. "I would recommend Imagine That to anyone serious about growing their business."
